and is in the final stages of construction at Ingolstadt. The model that will be built and launched based on the e-tron quattro will become the first large scale electric product from Audi, with zero-emissions driving that does not compromise pleasure.

The electric model that is being prepared by Audi is being thought of as a direct opponent of the already confirmed Tesla X. The development program is being promoted and led by director of research and development of Audi, Ulrich Hackenberg.

The arrival of the production version of the e-tron quattro on the markets is scheduled for 2018 and intends to offer an electric range of at least 500km. The model will be built based on the MLB platform, the one that is also being used on the recently launched second generation of the Q7.

Using the knowledge gained from the R8 e-tron the e-tron quattro has three electric motors, one mounted on the transmission and two at rear, each positioned in one of the wheels. The first distributes power to the front axle, so the concept offers all-wheel drive, hence the name quattro.

The power is supplied by a lithium-ion battery placed on a lower area of the platform, helping to reduce the center of gravity of the vehicle and to balance the weight distribution on the axles.

More information will be provided closer to the Frankfurt Motor Show which runs from 17 to 27 September.
