Auto say that they will introduce a Denza EV hatchback at the Beijing Auto Show in April 2014 and go on sale in the summer.

The vehicle has been in development since 2010 with Daimler and Beijing sharing development of the car. It was shown as a concept at the Shanghai Auto Show last April. Three dealer groups in China have already confirmed that they will sell the cars.

Neither company has given any details about the production specifications of the Denza.

The two companies launched the Denza brand in 2012. Beijing is providing the batteries and electric drivetrain, while Daimler brought its experience with EVs, vehicle safety and premium cars.

“The exciting new Denza brand is a highly visible seal of approval for the leading-edge design, technology and personality of the new car which we are convinced will resonate with customers here in China,” said Ulrich Walker, Chairman & CEO of Daimler Northeast Asia.

Daimler paid €625 million (845 million) to buy a 12% stage in Beijing last week. It plans to use the partnership to strengthen its sales position in China where it has lagged compared to BMWBMWBMWGermany, 1918 > present87 models
