"This new, state-of-the-art factory is further proof of the Volkswagen Group's comprehensive commitment in China. Here in Ningbo and together with our partners, our pioneering spirit is once again driving economic and technical progress in the Chinese automotive industry,” said VW Group Chairman Martin Winterkorn.

VW and its Chinese joint venture partner SAICShanghaiShanghaiChina, 1958 > 19792 models
built the factory in just under two years. It is located about 150km south of Shanghai and includes a press, body, paint and assembly area.

SAIC and VW operate five factories together and have construction on a sixth has just begun in Urumqi, China. It is also in the planning stages for a factory in Changsha that will be finished in 2015.

VW’s other Chinese factories are operated with FAWHongqiHongqiChina, 1990 > present2 models

VW believes that it will build four million vehicles a year in China by 2018.
