Group sales from January to September are up 4.8% to 7.03 million cars. It is the first time that VW Group has sold over 7 million cars in the first three quarters. Sales in September alone are up 7% to 856,900 cars.
European sales continue to be the sticking point for VW Group, and sales fell 2.4% there to 2.73 million cars in the first three quarters. Western Europe, excluding Germany, saw sales fall 1.6% to 1.4 million cars. German sales fell 3.9% to 855,600 cars. Central and Eastern European sales fell 2% in the first three quarters to 470,200 cars, and Russian sales were down 3.7% to 226,100 cars.
American growth is steady but still smaller than some other major automakers. Sales are up 9.2% to 664,500 cars, and of those 463,200 were sold in the United States, up 7.3%. South American sales are down 9.4% to 681,200 cars, and they are down 12.3% to 503,100 cars in Brazil.
The Asian region continues to keep VW Group growing with 2.63 million cars sold, up 16%. Of those, 2.35 million cars were sold in China, up 17.7%. Indian sales fell 17.4% to 70,700 cars.
