Dune Concept at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It imagines a modern take on the Beetle off-roader with an all-terrain suspension and ski rack.

VW claims that everything about the Beetle Dune Concept is production ready. It has a suspension that has been raised 50mm over the standard car and wears 19in wheel with all-terrain tires.

It is powered by a 207hp (210ps) turbocharged engine with a six-speed DSG transmission that powers the front wheels. It uses the electronic XDS differential lock from the GTI to improve traction.

Will details and images of the concept will be revealed at the show.
