Performance tires are fantastic. There are few modifications that you can make to your car as easily that will have as much of an effect on how the car drives, but a common problem with them is that they make cruising much louder. Continental Tires is introducing a new performance tire that it hopes to change that called the ContiSilent. The company claims that it reduces interior noise by 9 decibels.
The tires are coated in a sound-deadening layer of foam inside the tread area at the end of production. Because it is performed at the end of tire production, it means that Continental can make tires of any kind using the technology with the only obvious downside being added weight. They are compatible with standard wheels and are installed in the same manner as standard tires.
For introduction the ContiSilent has a performance tread pattern, and the company claims not change in braking, handling or wet weather performance.
