is showing technology that allows cars to park themselves without drivers even being present, but the technology is still some ways away from being implemented because it involves specific sensors in the car and parking spot. The technology uses car-to-infrastructure communication with sensors embedded in the road and the car. Drivers can activate the system using a smartphone application.

On the way to the parking space, the car uses its sensors to detect pedestrians and other cars and stop itself.

"Autonomous Parking is a concept technology that relieves the driver of the time-consuming task of finding a vacant parking space. The driver just drops the vehicle off at the entrance to the car park and picks it up in the same place later," said Thomas Broberg, Senior Safety Advisor Volvo Car Group.

Volvo will demonstrate the technology in the real world soon.

Volvo is attempting to make big leaps in autonomous driving. Its SARTRE program allows cars to drive autonomously in road trains on public roadways.
