History and Development

In 1979, Toyota unveiled the Corolla E70, that is, the fourth generation Corolla model. The 1979 model brought back some squared lines, making it a rather sharped and boxy car. The E70 was the last Corolla generation with rear-wheel drive technology on its entire range of variants.

Engine and Transmission

The rear-wheel drive Corolla E70 comes with front-mounted 1.3, 1.6 and 1.8-liter engines, which produce from 65 to 115 hp, according to the variant and the country where it is sold.

Body and Design

The E70 series Corolla was available in several body shape options: 2-door hardtop coupé, 2- and 4-door sedan, 3-door liftback, 3- and 5-door station wagon and 5-door van. Fumio Agetsuma is the designer that began working on this series early on 1974.
