Introduced in the market in 2008, this Toyota iQ Multidrive is the 1st generation of the microcar model. This version is powered by a front-mounted petrol 996cc engine with a power output of 68 hp at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 91 nm. The microcar features the smallest available engine in this generation. The microcar is capable of accelerating from 0 to 100km/h in 15.50 seconds at a maximum speed of 150 km/h. It has a continuously variable transmission transmission and front wheel drive. It features an average fuel consumption of 4.7 l/100km that translates into 110.0 g/km of CO2 emissions. As for the seating arrangement, it offers space for up to 4 persons. This Toyota iQ Multidrive features rack & pinion steering, at the front it wears disc brakes and at the rear drum brakes.

The Toyota iQ was first presented at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show as a concept vehicle. In 2008 at the Geneva Auto Show it was introduced and set to go into production and reach the european market in January 2009. The iQ is available with a 5- or 6- speed manual transmission and models with the 1.33 litre engine already include start/stop system.
