about this car

This 1927 Bugatti Royale Coupe Napoleon was the very first car to be produced in this series. The luxurious tourer that was targeted at royal families, as the name suggests, was actually used by Ettore Bugatti and at a certain point later in his life it became his personal car.

Through the years the car was rebodied several times, including in 1930 when Ettore Bugatti crashed after falling asleep while driving. The car would remain in the Bugatti family until they were forced to sell it in 1963 due to financial struggles. Hans and Fritz Schlumpf, known for being obecessed with Bugatti cars, bought the Coupe Napoleon which today resides in the Musée National de l'Automobile de Mulhouse that houses the Schlumpf Collection of classic automobiles and includes the largest collection of Bugatti motor vehicles in the world.
