The Vauxhall Astra GTC was introduced in 2011 and it is sold in other countries by Opel. It is intended to replace the Astra Sports Hatch and will compete with the Volkswagen Scirocco and the Renault Megane Coupe.

The Astra GTC includes a range of petrol and diesel engines. The 1.4-litre Turbo petrol engine is available with either 120PS or 140PS power outputs. The 1.4 Turbo models are equipped as standard with Start/Stop system which helps them to keep a low level of CO2 emissions of 140 to 142 g/km. The second petrol engine is a 1.6-litre Turbo that produces 180PS and allows the GTC to accelerate from 0-60mph in 7.8 seconds at a top speed of 137mph (220km/h).
The diesel range includes a 1.7-litre CDTi that develops either 110PS or 130PS, all equipped with Start/Stop system as standard. The second diesel engine is a 2.0-litre CDTi with a power output of 165PS and a maximum torque of 350Nm.

Six-speed manual gearboxes are standard fit across the entire range. A six-speed automatic gearbox is also available on the 1.4 Turbo 140PS and 2.0 CDTi 165PS engines.

Founded in 1857 by Alexander Wilson, Vauxhall was originally called Alex Wilson and Company and it was a pump and marine engine manufacturer which only started manufacturing cars in 1903. The company's second name was Vauxhall Iron Works but it was again changed in 1907 to the current name Vauxhall Motors.
