2014 Updates

Volkswagen unveiled at the 2014 Beijing Motor Show an updated version of the Touareg. Apart from some visual changes, the SUV got its range of engines updated.

All versions of the Touareg have been equipped with bi-xenon headlights and received a new larger grille and modified bumper. The rear got a new bumper and a diffuser. Other features include new alloy wheels, new paint colors and new shades of leather upholstery.

The four-wheel drive SUV is available in turbodiesel versions (V6 and V8 TDI), petrol (V6 and V8 FSI) petrol turbo (V6 TSI) and hybrid (V6 TSI engine and electric motor). The V6 engines are equipped with an eight-speed automatic gearbox . All versions use a default start-stop system and a regenerative braking system for kinetic energy recovery. The 258PS TDI version received a power increase of 13PS and yet consumption was reduced to 7.2l/100km, with 189g/km CO2 emissions.

Thanks to the use of low-rolling resistance tires, stop-start technology and battery regeneration, the two V6 TDI engines meet emission standards EU6 which will be mandatory as of 2015.

All models are equipped with a post-collision braking system and an integrated coasting function incorporated in the eight-speed automatic transmission box. Adaptive Cruise Control is available as an option and includes city brake function.

Other main changes on the German SUV are the aerodynamics improvements. The vehicle is lowered and has a small frontal area with a style based on the new Volkswagen design DNA.

As for the powertrain, the new generation of the Touareg is equipped by two diesel engines and offers a hybrid version. All versions of the SUV are equipped with all-wheel-drive. The vehicle comes with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission on all engine versions, which produces significant fuel economy advantages.
