Zündapp was founded in 1917 by Dr. Fritz Neumeyer and Friedrich Krupp as a motorcycle manufacturer. The company developed its first car in 1931 by teaming up with Ferdinand Porsche and supporting his vision to create a car for everybody (Auto für Jedermann). After 3 prototypes built, Zündapp lost interest in the project.
Zündapp turned its attention to automobiles again between 1957 and 1958 when it dedicated itself to the production of the Zündapp Janus microcar. In 1985, after struggling with financial problems, the factory and the stock of vehicles was sold to a Chinese company, dictating the end of the brand’s production.
