Rain fell during every session of qualifying

*Update* Perez originally qualified 14th, but received a five-place grid penalty for a gearbox change to move him down to 19th place. *Update*

Sebastian Vettel set another pole position this season at the Brazilian Grand Prix. The rain played a huge role in today's qualifying session. Rain delayed the final session three times, and by the time that the race restarted, the track was dry. Nico Rosberg managed second fastest, and Fernando Alonso will start in third.

Rain was sprinkling at start of the Q1 session. There were a few dry spots, but all of the cars were on intermediates. Halfway through the session, the rain got even heavier. At that point, Hamilton was leading with Vettel and Hamilton behind him. The drivers that had not set a fast time early on were in trouble as the rain fell because the lap times were slowing down. Jean-Eric Vergne came around at the end of the session and knocked Pastor Maldonado into 17th place and out of Q2.

The rain kept falling into Q2 and everyone still was on intermediates. The strategy was the same in Q2 as in Q1 where everyone tried to get out early in case the rain got worse later in the session. At the halfway point, Vettel, Rosberg and Hamilton were the top drivers. There was lots of sliding around during the entire session, especially from the Force IndiasForce IndiaForce IndiaIndia, 2007 > present8 models

and Felipe Massa. In the final two minutes, the track began speeding up, and Romain Grosjean briefly held the fastest lap. Just as the clock went to zero, Sergio Perez got the rears onto the curbs and spun into the wall. He lost the front wing and destroyed the suspension. It was a bad day for his final qualifying for McLaren. Neither McLaren made it to the Q3 session.

The Q3 session was slightly delayed while Perez's car was cleaned up, and in that time the rain started falling even harder. The rain brought on three, ten-minute delays for Q3 due to the volume of water on the track. When racing restarted, the rain had stopped. In the first round of fast laps, Vettel, Nico Rosberg and Hamilton had the fastest laps. They all came in for intermediates to replaces the wet tires and try for another fast lap. Grosjean held out and immediately set a fast lap, but it did not last long as Webber and Vettel set consecutive fast laps with 1:30 to go.
