Abarth will be debuting at next week’s Geneva Motor Show two performance cars, based versions of popular Fiat models Punto Evo and 500C. The house of the scorpion continues to confirm the support that it has received in the last years from Fiat Group. As in previous models Abarth combines the Fiat Powertrain Technology and its race-derived know-how.
Both new models will go on sale over the next few months through Abarth’s official dealer network in Europe and Japan, being followed by other markets.
Abarth Punto Evo
The Abarth version of Fiat’s Punto Evo is powered by the new 165 HP Multiair 1.4 turbo petrol engine that has been modified by engineers to improve its sporting performance, an attribute of all the cars from the scorpion brand.
Adapting the already advanced technology of the Multiair engines, Abarth engineers added a larger turbocharger from Garrett, which handed the Punto Evo a maximum torque of 250 Nm, at 2250 rpm, and acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.9 seconds.
The Punto Evo version also features a new performance mode selection system, offering a choice between two different driving styles – Sport and Normal – that can be selected to suit the road conditions or the driver’s preferences. Equipped with the Start&Stop technology the Punto Evo will have, according to Abarth, a fuel consumption of 6.0 l/100 km in the combined cycle, with Co2 emissions of 142g/km.
As for its style the Abarth Punto Evo received changes, with engineers having in mind the improvement of the car’s performance and aerodynamics.
Abarth 500C
The new Abarth 500C will be the first convertible vehicle to be launched since the rebirth of the scorpion brand. The 500C will be powered by a 1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet engine, combining once again the performance of Abarth’s racing experience with Fiat’s powertrain technology.
The 1.4 16v Turbo T-Jet engine reaches an output of 140 HP at 5000 rpm and has a maximum torque of 206 Nm at 2000 rpm. The new Abarth convertible reaches a top speed of 205 km/h and accelerates from a standing position to 100km/h in 8.1 seconds.
In terms of fuel consumption, tests made by Abarth, show a 6.5 l/100 km consumption in the combined cycle, 5.4 l/100 km in the extra-urban cycle and8.5 l/100 km in the urban cycle, representing emissions of 155g/km.
