"I jumped out of the car after the last run today and I felt to myself, 'I'm ready. I want this.’

"By having a few days like this, I feel like I am as ready as I can be. The only time you realize how hard it is, is actually when you do a race,” said da Costa.

Da Costa has been climbing the steps to Formula 1 since he raced in the Renault 2.0 series in 2008. The 21-year-old from Lisbon tested for Force India in 2010 and has raced in Formula 3, GP3 and GP 2 since then. His best professional year yet was in 2012 when he came in third in the GP3 series championship and finished first in the in the Macau Grand Prix for Formula 3 cars. So far this year, he is in fifth place in the Formula Renault 3.5 series with six races to go.
