Autoviva has been following the Aston Martin V12 Zagato through its announcemnt, development, racing and now finally going on sale. Aston Martin is finally revealing everything about the car.

We already knew that the V12 Zagato is a Zagato-bodied version of the V12 Vantage. It is making just 150 of the limited model and because of their special status, each one will be basically hand made. Being V12 Vantage based, the car uses the same engine - a 6.0 liter V12 with 510hp and 570Nm of torque. Each one will cost £330,000. There are still no plans to offer the car outside of Europe and the Middle East.

Aston Martin claims that it takes 2,000 man-hours to complete each V12 Zagato. The car is made from a mix of hand-bent aluminum and carbon fiber. The hood, roof and doors are all aluminum, while the fenders, door sills and trunk are carbon fiber. The V12 Zagato comes in one of four colors exclusive to this model: Scintilla Silver, Alloro Green, Alba Blue and Diavolo Red. It takes about 100 hours to paint each car. The interior is also all hand-fitted and sewn.

The car was developed using techniques that Aston Martin learned building the One-77. The first designs were penned in 2010, and two prototypes were completed in the spring of 2011. The car was first displayed at the Villa d'Este concours and took first place for its design. Two cars were also prepped for the 24 Hours of the Nuerburgring, which both completed.

The V12 Zagato is meant at least partially to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the DB4GT Zagato. There are only 19 of those still in existence today.

“Our relationship with Zagato stretches back more than 50 years. Together in that time we have created a series of very special cars. The first – the DB4GT Zagato – is a true icon: fast, beautiful and incredibly desirable. In the V12 Zagato I believe we have captured the spirit of that car and combined it with a confident twist of modernity to give it a character all of its own,” said Aston Martin’s CEO Dr Ulrich Bez.

An impressive car, I saw it at the Brussels Motorshow. Still, I prefer the 1-77 ;-)
