Audi Announces Development of Q1 Compact Crossover

has announced the development of a compact crossover called the Q1 that will go into production in Ingolstadt in 2016. It released a single rendering of the car, which you can see above.

Audi says that the Q1 is part of its SUV strategy to have an option across its entire model range. The little truck will sit at the very bottom of Audi’s SUV range.

Technical details on the Q1 are still scant. Audi has confirmed that it will use the MQB modular platform, and given its size, the Q1 will likely use VolkswagenVolkswagenGermany, 1938 > present98 models

The image of the Q1 shows a car with a flat roof and angular C-pillar with accentuated wheel arches to make it look more aggressive and off-road ready.

"The Q1 is a key component of our growth strategy," said Audi CEO Rupert Stadler.

Audi says that it will have more than 60 engine and model variations on sale by 2020 form 49 today and will sell more than two million cars a year worldwide.
