Audi has officially begun production of the all-new Q3 compact SUV at the SEAT factory in Martorell, Spain. It will be the first Audi vehicle ever built at the facility and it is planned for around 100,000 units of the Q3 to leave the assembly line each year.
Frank Dreves, Board Member for Production at AUDI AG, gives his support to the new facility.
“The Q3 production is an example of how we are making use of synergies within the Group. The Martorell factory is an extremely productive facility with a highly skilled workforce, and one that meets the exacting quality standards of our brand. The Q3 definitely gets the Audi seal of approval,” he said.
Production of the Q3 at the Martorell plant has created 700 new jobs, and all staff involved in the process have completed a 176 hour course to prepare them for the challenge. The plant has received a new body shop for the Q3’s production which features 450 robots designed especially for the Q3 on a 30,000 square metre site.
Audi also say that they are planning on a production facility for a local-market specific model in China.
Advance sales for the Q3 will begin in Europe this month with market launch scheduled to happen in the last quarter of the year. Base price for the Q3 is to be €29,900 in Germany.
