At this year's Geneva Motor Show in March, Audi will be unveiling the facelift of the RS3 Sportback. The BMW M140i xDrive and Mercedes-Benz A45 4Matic rival follows the same updates as the RS3 Sedan adopting a re-engineered variant of Audi’s turbocharged five-cylinder direct-injection petrol engine.
400hp engine powers the new RS3 Sportback
The
new hot-hatchback RS3 Sportback gets a heavily revised five-cylinder 2.5-litre petrol. It gets a lighter but stiffer aluminium crankcase and a new dual injection process. The result is more 33hp
than its predecessor to a total output of 400hp. Torque has also grown to 480Nm.
Thanks to this engine the
RS3 Sportback coupled with a seven-speed double clutch S-Tronic gearbox can reach the 100km/h mark in 4.1 seconds, 0.2 seconds less than
the previous RS3 Sportback. The top speed is electronically limited to 250km/h, but can be increased to 280km/h if required by the customer.
Design updates on the Audi RS3 Sportback
The new Audi
RS3 Sportback has also received an updated design. It includes a new front bumper which incorporates a reworked six-corner grille and includes a restyled high gloss black honeycomb insert and a larger frame in brushed aluminium. Larger air ducts and a more prominent splitter have also been added.
In line with other facelifted variants of the A3, the new
RS3 Sportback has also received new-shaped headlamps with LED projectors as standard.
Audi’s matrix LED units are available as an option.
The rear of the
RS3 Sportback has also been modified and gets a restyled bumper with a new diffuser and oval tailpipes. The spoiler on top of the tailgate has also been tweaked as well as the tail lamp lenses.
