In an investment worth 45 million euros, Audi is celebrating the opening of the extension building of its Toolmaking Division and also the introduction of a synchronized production system. To enhance the efficiency in the production process this new system ensures that all work steps are now perfectly coordinated.
Frank Dreves, Member of the Board of Management for Production at AUDI AG. said “This will enable us to complete significantly more vehicle projects than would have been possible before – an important prerequisite for the implementation of our model initiative”.
Peter Mosch, Chairman of the General Works Council of AUDI AG. considers that this kind of investments “in modern buildings and machinery, in new, environmentally friendly products, and promoting members of the workforce through qualification and training measures represent investments in secure jobs and in the future of Audi”.
The Toolmaking Division of Audi develops a very important role in the company’s value-added chain with big responsibility in the high quality of the panels making up the outer skin and thus of the bodies.
The new synchronized system makes the material flow more transparent, faster and more stringent. It is also controlled by newly developed software. With the opening of the extension building, with a total floor area of 10,230 m2, Audi Toolmaking in Ingolstadt will reorganize its workflows.
The Ingolstadt toolmaking expansion project was completed in three construction phases. Groundbreaking took place in September 2008, with employees moving into the new space at the end of last year.
Audi Toolmaking employs 1700 workers throughout the company, with almost 900 people employed at the Ingolstadt plant alone.
Best known for its innovative power Audi Toolmaking has recently developed particularly lightweight items of equipment for the body shop in which large components are made of carbon fiber composites. Their low weight was able to reduce electricity consumption by more than 40 percent.
