Sport ABT as its seventh confirmed team for its 2014 season that begins in September.

“We’ve been watching this new project of the FIA with great interest and are delighted that ABT Sportsline as one of our close and long-standing partners will be involved right from the beginning. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for the squad on tackling this new challenge and are planning to support its commitment with drivers from our factory line-up if required,” said Audi Motorsport Director Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.

The team is not a completely Audi-supported operation, but it is dipping its toe into the series by partially financially supporting the ABT Sportsline team.

Managing director Hans-Jürgen Abt will run the team, but it has not announced a driver lineup yet.

“We’re proud to have the opportunity to take part in the debut of this new racing series. Participating in the new FIA Formula E Championship marks a completely new chapter in our more than 60-year motorsport history,” said Abt.

ABT Sportsline is a well known Volkswagen and Audi tuner from Germany that has been racing successfully for Audi in the DTM since 2000. It has won five series titles in that time.

All teams in the Formula E will use the same car for the 2014 season but will be open to create their own chassis if they wish in future seasons.
