Bentley is planning to grow its line-up by creating variations on the Mulsanne, including a convertible and coupe, and Continental according to Bentley CEO Wolfgang Durheimer.
“We can make more of the Continental line up than we have today. I could see it developing as the 911 derivatives did; lightweight models, special models, that was a very successful strategy," he said.
The Mulsanne is Bentley's flagship model. It uses a modified version of Bentley's iconic 6.75l V8 engine.
It seems antithetical for Bentley to be producing large numbers of variations of its models. The company's bread and butter is large, luxurious cars. While convertibles make sense, a lightened, sport-tuned Bentley does not entirely make sense. VW already owns Bentley, Audi, Lamborghini and is close to owning Porsche. Let Bentley make the luxury cars and leave the fast stuff to the other three.
