The actual car will be open-wheeled

The inaugural Formula E season will begin in 2014, and it now appears that there will be more than one car supplier. Bluebird, a British company best known for building land speed record cars and electric vehicles, says that it will have a car ready for the 2014 Formula E season. It has not confirmed any teams to use the car yet.

Until its announcement, Formula E was set to be a one-make series for its first season using a DallaraDallaraItaly, 1972 > present3 models

electric motors.

At minimum Bluebird will run its own team in Formula E using its own car, but it also hopes to find customer teams as well. It says that it is already in negotiations with two teams, and the first car will be finished in September.

"We see the opportunity to apply our significant knowledge and experience in electric technology directly into Formula E and it makes sense for the Bluebird name to use its own technology, rather than anyone else's.

"Bluebird offers an alternative to the current manufacturing option which we hope the FIA will consider at their September World Motor Sport Council meeting," said project director Martin Rees.

The only two teams have confirmed participation in Formula E next season - Drayson Racing Technologies and China Racing. Both will use the Dallara chassis, but Drayson says that it is developing its own car for the 2015 season.

Formula E will hold 10 races next year in cities around the world, including Rome, London, Rio de Janeiro and Beijing.
