Button wins and takes the lead

Jenson Button took his second win of the season in China when he outlasted the whole pack in a race marked by the rainy weather. The British driver finished ahead of his team mate Lewis Hamilton with the lower podium spot going for a second time in a row to Mercedes' GP Nico Rosberg.

For Button the win was once again based on a better tyre change option combined with class driving at the end of the race when the Brit had to secure his top postion over his team mate.

The weather played its odds on a race that became chaotic rigth from the start when when Vitantonio Liuzzi hit Toro Rosso's Sebastien Buemi and Sauber's Kamui Kobayashi when he lost control of his Force India.

When Adrian Sutil, Jaime Alguersuari and Rubens Barrichello got involved in another accident the safety car had to make his entrance and left both Red Bulls, both Ferraris, Hamilton and Michael Schumacher to make a strategic choice on wether to change into intermediate tyres or not.

Keeping the slicks came out to be a better choice as Nico Rosberg, Jenson Button, Robert Kubica and Vitaly Petrov got ahead of the rest of the pack as the others had to make an extra visit to pit to put on the slicks.

The weather conditions would once again change the race as the rain started falling heavily. At the time Rosberg was leading but a mistake saw him loose his position to reigning champion Jenson Button. The pace car would once again make an entrance after Jaime Alguersuari hit the back of an HRT car and left front wing debris all over the track. The pack got all together and the race was still on.

At the restart Vettel tried to take advantage and forced Hamilton to go wide but also sent his team mate off the track. Hamilton lost some ground and had to recover positions into his final runner-up spot ahead of Rosberg.

In the final twenty laps things seemed to have settled down with Jenson Button driving at a comfortable distance of his team mate. Rosberg lacked the pace to fight for top position but managed to keep Alonso behind him. Kubica settled for fifth place as he continued to show Renault's good form at the start of the season. The Pole was followed by the Vettel, his Russian team-mate and the Aussie Mark Webber that once again failed to catch his opportunities of a better result.

Massa failed once again to handle the rainy conditions keeping his Ferrari ahead of former Ferrari team mate Michael Schumacher who settled for the last ponctuable position.

In the standings Jenson Button took the lead in the driver's championship with a lead of 10 points over Nico Rosberg. Alonso and Hamilton are tied for third with 49 points each. In the manufacturer's standings McLaren assumes the lead ahead of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing.

The F1 championship says goodbye to Asia as it now heads to Europe with the next Grand Prix taking place in Barcelona's Montmelo circuit, in Spain, on the 9th of May.
