Cadillac XTS Debuting Integrated Driver Assistance Systems

Cadillac XTS Debuting Integrated Driver Assistance Systems

Cadillac has its new flagship sedan the XTS coming in just a few months that will replace the STS and DTS. The XTS will be the first Cadillac with an integrated system of driver's assistance systems that will theoretically make the vehicle safer.

The XTS unifies radar, camera, and ultrasonic sensors to connect the following systems: Rear Automatic Braking, Full-Speed Range Adaptive Cruise Control, Intelligent Braking Assist, Forward Collision Alert, Safety Alert Seat, Automatic Collision Preparation, Lane Departure Warning, Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Adaptive Forward Lighting, Rear Vision Camera with Dynamic Guidelines and Head-Up Display. The XTS is the first Cadillac to offer all of these features.

Cadillac plans to further develop these systems to eventually make the XTS or possibly future vehicles semi-autonomous and later fully-autonomous. It is already looking into adding LIDAR, Light Detection And Ranging, with the radar already on the XTS to make the vehicle even smarter.

“We believe sensor fusion will enable future active safety systems to handle a greater number of inputs to provide 360 degrees of crash risk detection and enhanced driver assist features,” said Bakhtiar Litkouhi, GM Research and Development lab group manager.

As these are not taking over (yet) the control on the wheel and gas pedal, and seem centered around safety, I guess they are good news.
