The new CT6 is the first of a series of eight new models that will be launched until the end of 2020 in an attempt to revive the American brand. The model will reach Europe in early 2016.
Powering the new luxury sedan at launch will be three petrol engines: a turbocharged 2.0-litre in-line four, a naturally aspirated 3.6-litre V6 and a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6. All the engines will be coupled with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and will have 265, 335 and 400hp of output, respectively. In the future the brand should also launch two extra versions, a plug-in hybrid variant and a twin-turbo V8.
The new CT6 has an estimated kerb weight of less than 1700kg and is 5184mm long, 1879mm wide and 1472mm high with a wheelbase of 3106mm. It comes with a choice of 18in, 19in or 20in alloys.
The two V6 engines have been equipped to an Active Chassis System as standard that includes an all-wheel drive system and Magnetic Ride Control. The latter adjusts each wheel’s suspension damping individually to improve the ride. The 2.0-litre model will be exclusively rear-wheel drive. The new CT6 features double-wishbone front and multi-link rear suspension, and the driver will be able to select one of three different drive modes: Tour, Snow/Ice and Sport.
Inside Cadillac has selected for the new CT6 a combination of “luxurious leathers, exotic woods, and carbonfibre”. The dashboard features a large high-resolution touchscreen, while two extra screens have been installed on back of the front two seats for rear-passenger entertainment.
The Cadillac CT6 is debuting an “industry-first” 360deg camera view around the car. This technology is able to record front and rear views while driving and when the security system is activated full 360deg recording is offered.
Other technological features inclued the Advanced Park Assist, which parks the car automatically, and new safety features including Night Vision, which helps identity objects through heat signatures on the infotainment system, and a Pedestrian Collision Mitigation that detects pedestrians and uses autonomous braking to avoid collisions.
