After withdrawing from the jointly-development of a sports car with Alpine it seems like Caterham is once again considering adding a enclosed sports car to its range alongside the Seven. However the project will only go ahead if Caterham finds a partner brand to work alongside it.
The future sports car will surely be based around the C120 concept, which was very well received by the public and was developed together with Alpine back in 2014. At the time Caterham’s boss, Graham MacDonald, expressed his regrets of not being able to move forward with the project but also showed intentions to bring it back to life in the future.
With the new model Caterham will try to enter a more mainstream market, with a model with more conventional shapes. Like the
Seven the model should be powered by an engine from an other manufacturer.
Just like it happened with the development of the C120, Caterham is talking with possible partners for this project. The brand is conscient that it does not have enough financial resources to advance with a model on its own.
Unlike the C120, Caterham wants to build a rear-wheel drive sports car with the engine mounted in the front.
