The Cayenne and Panamera models continue to offer Porsche reasons to smile. Besides worldwide acceptance and growing sales, both models continue to receive distinctions from automotive magazines.
Created by Porsche Chief Designer Michael Mauer, the design language featured in both the sporty off-road vehicle and the four-door Gran Turismo makes them fit into the Porsche model series.
Available since May 2010 the new Cayenne with its sporty and elegant appearance conquered the readers of the German "auto motor und sport“ magazine, which voted the Porsche SUV as the best-looking model in its class by a long head at the "autonis" design prize.
In the case of the "Das Goldene Klassik-Lenkrad“ (the golden classic steering wheel) prize, issued this year for the first time by the "Auto Bild Klassik“ magazine, the Porsche Cayenne won the title of "Klassiker der Zukunft” (classic car of the future). This title is awarded to vehicles with the biggest potential for becoming classic cars.
The Cayenne Diesel was also awarded the title of "Firmenauto des Jahres” (company car of the year), an award handed jointly by the "Firmenauto“ magazine and the Dekra independent inspection organisation after extensive testing and comparison runs.
The Cayenne was Porsche’s bestselling model in the 2009/10 business year with sales of 29,855 vehicles. From this number 11,618 represent customers that bought the new Cayenne.
As impressive as the success of the Cayenne is the acceptance of the four-door Panamera that since its world launch in September 2009 has already sold 21,706 vehicles. In Germany alone, around 2600 customers opted to buy the Panamera. With the Gran Turismo, Porsche has positioned itself in the upper and luxury class with this sporty model and is already reaching a segment share of 13 per cent there.
The Panamera has also received several public and expert prizes. Again, the "auto motor und sport“ readers voted the Porsche model to first place in the "Die besten Autos” (best cars) category.
The Gran Turismo also received the "Auto Trophy“ by the German "Auto Zeitung“ specialist magazine in addition to "Das Goldene Lenkrad“ (golden steering wheel) from "Bild am Sonntag“ and "Auto Bild“.
The Panamera has also received a series of international prizes, which include the the "Car of the Year“ and "Dynamicist of the Year“ awards from the British "Vehicle Dynamics“ specialist magazine and the "Most Wanted Award“ from the editors of the "Inside Line“ online magazine, in the USA.
