is hoping for success at the Indianapolis 500 this weekend, and it has good reason to be optimistic after four wins in four races in the IZOD IndyCar Series. To make the success even sweeter, this is the first year that Chevrolet has supplied engines to the series since 2004. Mark Kent, Matt Wiles, Steve Miller and Steve O'Connor received the 46th annual BorgWarner Louis Schwitzer Award on Monday for their work on the Chevrolet 2.2l, twin-turbo V6 used in the series. The award honors achievements in racing car engineering.
IndyCar engines are currently limited to 2.2l, twin-turbo V6s engines with a 12,000rpm redline. All engines must run on 100% ethanol. The Chevrolet engine uses a combination of direct and port injection. There are six fuel injectors in the head and six more in the plenum. The team determined their placement by computer modeling the engine
“Going four-for-four at the racetrack and winning the Louis Schwitzer award has exceeded our expectations, but the ultimate goal for this project has always been to develop powerful fuel-efficient engine technologies that could be transferred to production cars,” said Kent.
