will stop production for the third time this year to make up for overcapacity and low demand. The Detroit factory where the Volt is built will stop production for four weeks between September and October. Sales of the Volt have not met expectations in the US.

hoped to sell 60,000 units of the Volt worldwide annually and sell 40,000 units in the US. In the first six months of the year Chevrolet has sold 10,666 Volts in the US. Chevrolet lowered Volt sales forecasts to 35,000 to 40,000 vehicles for this year in June. Although unless the sales rate doubles, Chevrolet will not meet its lower expectations either.
Volt production stopped for five weeks from March to April and for three weeks in July already this year.
