Citroen and Peugeot are aiming to take on Dacia, which is owned by major rival Renault. Autocar speculates that this could to even lead to a sub-brand for the two companies to develop cheaper cars aimed at Eastern Europe, China, Africa and Latin America.
Peugeot is already reportedly working on an inexpensive sedan with the working title of M3 with a price around £8000. The M3 would also act as the underpinning for an M4 that would add more luxurious features but be based on the same inexpensive platform.
Citroen has already been developing the concept of lower priced cars with the C-Cactus, pictured above, but the concept would probably be too complicated to build cheaply. Whatever it builds will probably have to be a far more minimalist vehicle.
