Deltawing Proposed to be Next Generation Indy Light Chassis

Deltawing proved itself at the 2012 24 Hours of Le Mans. It made it 75 laps into the race, a distance of 1022km, and only dropped out because an inattentive ToyotaTS030 HYBRIDToyota TS030 HYBRIDJapan, 2012 > present5 photos

driver crashed into it. It is not known whether the car will make another attempt at Le Mans, but it has been proposed to be the new 2014 car for the Indy Lights series.

and Highcroft Racing with help from Dan Gurney’s All American Racers originally designed the Deltawing. The Nissan name and sponsorship was added when the car began using the 1.6-liter turbocharged Nissan engine. 

Panoz would not comment on the propasal citing on-going negotiations

and Mygale. At the moment, there are no clear favorites to win the contract. 

The Deltawing may have some advantage for the contract. It is a proven car, team owner Chip Ganassi is backing the project and Nissan is already the engine supplier to the series.

In the past, Panoz has said that the Deltawing would not be a one-off project and had planned to use the chassis for spec competition. One possibility was to use it as a support race for his ALMS. 

Indy Lights began in 1989 as the feeder series into CART, which is now the IndyCar series. For the majority of its existence, the series used a LolaLolaLolaUnited Kingdom, 1958 > 195938 models

V6 engine. In 2002, the series became the feeder series to the CART rival Indy Racing League. The cars used a Nissan 3.5-liter V8 and a Dallara chassis.

Would love to see the Deltawing on track again! Le Mans was a promising start.
