In a few months buyers will be able to get their hands on a special edition Dodge Challenger. Called the Challenger Yellow Jacket, the car takes its inspiration from a show car from 1969.
The Challenger Yellow Jacket gets a bright yellow exterior with black grill and black body stripe. It features a small yellow jacket on the rear fender as well. The Yellow Jacket wears 20x9in wheels with performance tires. Inside, the Yellow Jacket has yellow trim on the standard leather seats with a yellow jacket embroidered on the seat head rests.
The Challenger Yellow Jacket starts as an SRT8 Challenger with a 6.4l, Hemi V8 producing 470hp and 470lb-ft of torque. Dodge claims that the Challenger SRT8 can accelerate to 60mph in the high four second range. It comes with a standard six-speed manual transmission but can be optioned with five-speed automatic. Regardless of transmission, the Challenger gets a limited-slip rear differential.
The 6.4l V8 can deactivate half of the cylinders while cruising to improve fuel economy and emissions. Still the big engine is rated at using 14 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles per gallon on the highway by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
New for 2012, all SRT8s get suspension with adaptive dampening. The system has two available modes: Sport and Auto. Auto is able to adapt the suspension based on throttle position, speed and steering angle. While the Sport mode forces the car constantly into its most aggressive settings.
The Challenger Yellow Jacket will be available to buyers in early 2012.
