has unveiled its 2014 1.6-liter turbocharged hybrid engine for Formula One called the 059/3. Unfortunately, Ferrari admits that this is just a model of the engine and not a running example, but it will look just like this.
“As a result of the 2014 regulations, we no longer talk of engines, but of power units. “It’s a very complex project and we have been working on it for the past two years. It’s a 1600 cc turbocharged internal combustion engine and only 100 liters of fuel can be used in a race, which means that the more efficient an engine, the more power it can use,” said Ferrari Head of Engines and Electronics, Luca Marmorini.
Like all 2014 F1 engines, the 059/3 also includes two hybrid systems. One is attached to the turbo and acts as a generator to recover energy from the exhaust gases. The second hybrid system is an updated version of KERS and recovers twice the energy from braking as the 2013 unit. The battery pack is stored under the fuel tank.
Ferrari will not present its 2014 chassis until closer to the beginning of the season. The cars are required to have narrower front wings, lower noses and changes to the exhaust system.
