Ferrari is trying to make itself a slightly cleaner car company while expanding into China. At the Auto Salon China in Beijing, Ferrari revealed a concept version of the F12 Berlinetta powered by a hybrid system that Ferrari calls HY-KERS.

The HY-KERS uses an two electric motors. One is linked to the transmission, and the system delivers power as needed. Power is regenerated during braking and used to recharge the batteries. An ECU controls the regeneration system, power steering, air conditioning, braking and on-board systems. The second electric motor sits at the front of the engine and runs all of the other auxiliary systems above.

The hybrid system, according to Ferrari, cuts the F12 Berlinetta's CO2 production by 40%, which would put emissions around 204g/km of CO2. Ferrari did not say how much power the hybrid system adds, but it says that the system adds nearly 1kW of power for every 1kg it adds.

Ferrari says the development of the system has finished experimentation, and it is now working on bringing the system to market.
