Fiat Bringing 500T and Abarth Convertible to US

Slideshow
The Fiat 500 Abarth Convertible is already available in Europe

It appears that Fiat is not done with the 500 line-up in the US. It has filed paperwork with the NHTSA and California Air Resources Board showing plans to bring he Fiat 500T and 500 Abarth Convertible to the US.

The 500t would use a detuned version of the 1.4l, turbocharged four-cylinder engine from the current 500 Abarth. That would indicate power somewhere between the 101hp in a standard 500 in the US and the 160hp from the Abarth model. It will likely have about 130hp like the base European Abarth 500.

The 500 Abarth Convertible already exists in other markets, and the 500C is already for sale in the US. It is not really surprising that Fiat would decide to bring the faster convertible model to the US, but this is the first time it has been announced.

The page from the NHTSA indicates that the cars will be 2013 models. Because they have not been officially announced by Fiat yet, they will probably not be available until later in the year, probably in the fall.
