Fiat with lowest average CO2 emissions on the first half of 2010

Fiat with lowest average CO2 emissions on the first half of 2010

In the first half of 2010 Fiat Automobiles has continued to figure as the brand with the lowest average CO2 emissions for cars sold in Europe. The Italian brand further demonstrates its environmental credentials which are part of a big investment in more efficient engines.

Fiat achieved the figure of 123.5 g/km, which was confirmed by automotive advisor JATO and follows a succession of landmark results that started back in 2007.

On the list of top ten brands Fiat is followed by Toyota (128.0 g/km), Peugeot (132.3 g/km), Citroen (133.4 g/km), Renault (134.6 g/km), Ford (137.0 g/km), Opel/Vauxhall (141.0 g/km), Volkswagen (142.2 g/km), Audi (154.2 g/km) and BMW (154.5 g/km).

Fiat SpA has also been recognized as a sustainability leader and has been included, for the second year in a row, in the Dow Jones Sustainability World and Dow Jones Sustainability Europe indexes. The corporation received a score of 93/100 compared with the Automobiles sector average of 70/100.

Last month Fiat Group was recognised as leader in the Sustainalytics assessment, in the Automobiles sector, with a score of 79/100. Sustainalytics is a global provider of environmental, social and governance research.

This position as a reference in terms of environmental credentials has been achieved by Fiat through a long-term strategy based on a two-pronged approach: implementing technological solutions aimed at containing consumption and emissions, and raising the awareness of motorists to encourage a more responsible, eco-compatible use of their cars.

CO2 emissions reduced by 21%

Over the last four years the emissions of CO2 of class-leading green cars has been reduced by 21%. This is the result of a comparison made by Green-Car-Guide.com, a green car news website from the UK.

These numbers are a result of the average for the best-in-class cars in the Green Car Guide, which features leading low-emission cars in 10 different categories. The winners of the different classes of the first Green Car Guide in October 2006 were compared with the ones from the latest guide.

So, in October 2006 the average emissions of the class-leading cars in the Green Car Guide (petrol, petrol-electric hybrids or diesel, but excluding electric) were 131.1 g/km CO2. In the latest guide the average is cut to 102.8 g/km CO2. This represents a cut of 28.3 g/km, 21.59% in four years.
