The seventh generation Volkswagen Golf if just around the corner. It is expected to be unveiled at the Paris Auto Show in September and go on sale in 2013. Given that the Golf is among Europe's best selling cars, the new Golf has to be done right.
Volkswagen is planning on offering a ton of power options for the next Golf with everything from a plug-in hybrid to a natural gas version. The basic cars will use the new EA211 family of 1.2 liter and 1.4 liter engines and the EA288 family of diesels. There will also be more sporty models with the EA888 1.8 liter and 2.0 liter engines.
The current rumor for the next GTI is a 260hp, turbocharged 2.0 liter with an electronic front differential to combat torque steer. The GTD is rumored to use a twin-turbo 2.0 liter diesel with 220hp.
VW will add optional Dynamic Chassis Control active dampers to some Golfs, and all-wheel drive will also be available on some variants.
The new Golf weighs as little as the fourth generation model from the late 90s despite being far safer.
