The 2013 GT500 uses a supercharged 5.8 liter V8 with 662hp and 631lb-ft of torque

The Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) has certified the supercharged, 5.8 liter V8 in the 2013 Shelby GT500 as the world's most powerful production V8 engine. It produces 662hp and 631lb-ft of torque.

Despite an increase in power of 112hp over th 2012 GT500, the new engine gets 1mpg better fuel economy in the city and on the highway bring it up to 15mpg city and 24mpg highway. Ford claims that the 2013 GT500 is the most fuel efficient vehicle in the US with more than 550hp.

The engine produces 395lb-ft from just 1,000rpm, and 90% of the peak torque is available from 2,200rpm to 5,800rpm.

The extra power comes from an extra 400cc of displacement  and a 2.3 liter supercharger. The peak power comes in at 6500rpm with the redline hitting at 7000rpm.

To get the power down, the 2013 GT500 has a stronger clutch than last year, Torsen limited-slip differential, launch control, Brembo brakes and a front fascia that provides 33% more downforce than the previous year.
