. The make claims the supercar is its most powerful model to date as well as its fastest ever. With an output of 647hp and torque of 745Nm the Ford GT can reach a top speed of 347km/h.
Ford claims that at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Canada, the new GT proved to be faster than its most direct contenders the McLaren 675LTMcLaren 675LTUnited Kingdom, 2015 > present and Ferrari 458 SpecialeFerrari 458 SpecialeItaly, 2014 > present. Honoring its racing heritage the GT completed a lap in 2:09.8 , one second faster than the 675LT and 3.1 seconds faster than the 458 Speciale.
According to product development boss Raj Nair these performance levels were possible thanks to the car's active aerodynamic and suspension systems.
“The Ford GT is all about performance,” said Nair. “We achieved considerable weight savings with the carbonfibre architecture. We then reinvested some of that savings into where it counts most – performance, specifically the active dynamics. The result is an even faster car.”
With 647hp the 3.5-liter V6 powerplant produces the most horsepower of any EcoBoost production engine ever. Ford engineers have also managed to output 90% of the engine's peak torque from 500 rpm.
Unfortunately Ford is still to reveal the official market launch date for the new GT supercar. However we know that the model will cost $450.000.
