at its Saarlouis factory in Germany. The Focus Electric has already been on sale in California for over a year, but these are the first fully electric Fords for Europe.

The European Focus Electric is identical opt is American counterpart. Its electric motor produces 141hp and 184lb-ft of torque, which gives it a top speed of 136km/h. The battery has a 23kWh capacity and will take two-and-a-half hours to recharge fully with a 32 amp power supply

“Focus Electric marks the dawn of an exciting new age of full-electric Ford passenger vehicles in Europe, and demonstrates the success of the One Ford strategy in making this sophisticated vehicle available to our European customers," said Barb Samardzich, head of product development at Ford of Europe.

To build the car and Ford's future hybrids, the German factory required a €16 million upgrade. The cars are built on the same production line as other Focus models.

The first Focus Electrics will be delivered to customers in August.
