Formula E Confirms Rome Round

The forthcoming Formula E series chose a difficult route into international racing. It could have hooked onto an existing racing series as a support event and had guaranteed tracks and crowds, but it decided that it would be best to do things alone.

When the series launches in 2014, it will race in 10 major cities around the world. Rio de Janiero had been the only confirmed round, but the series has announced that it will also race in Rome in 2014. The organizers say that they are close to confirming races in eight other cities and will have an announcement about them next month. 

"We have them all, practically. But each mayor wants to make own announcement, like we have done in Rome.

"So we will be making the announcements probably once a month, or maybe a couple of times per month, from January onwards. I would say we have already 90 percent of the cities that we will race in for 2014," said series head Alejandro Agag.

The Roman circuit will run on roads surrounding the Coliseum.

The series has also said that it has been in negotiations with Monaco and Barcelona but has not made any official announcements with either city yet.

electric racecars that will race during the inaugural season. The series is open in terms of chassis and electric motors, but there obviously are not many businesses selling electric motors for racecars. Therefore if a team does not have its own chassis, it can buy one from Formula E.
