Formula E, the racing series for electric, open-wheel cars, appears to be making a real attempt at success. The series has already confirmed races in Rio de Janeiro and Rome and says that more will be confirmed in the near future. It has also gone from its original Formulec EF01 chassis, which the series bought the rights to, to a new chassis by Spark Racing Technology that will have its electric motors and electronics supplied by McLarenMcLarenUnited Kingdom, 1963 > present92 models

The series plan is to stage races exclusively in major world cities. It is hoping for 10, two-car teams for its 2014 season. Qualifying and racing will take place on the same day.
The major downside to the series is that while the races will be one-hour long, the cars only hold about 30 minutes of charge. Instead of a traditional pit stop, the drivers will actually change cars and continue racing. It is theoretically possible for Formula E to upgrade its existing cars before racing starts in 2014 to fix this problem.
