We had previously announced that the BMW i3 was exceeding all expectations and that in the first few months the brand had already received more than 10.000 pre-orders. Now we found out that because of the high demand people are having to wait six months to receive their cars.
This is happening just a few months away from the launch of the model in the US, in May, which will probably pressure in even more the production. In Europe the electric vehicle has been on sale since November and will arrive in the Asian and Chinese markets in the middle of the year.
BMW sales chief, Ian Robertson, referes that the company has already received about 11,000 orders globally for the i3. In the United States, BMW has already taken 1200 orders for the car, Robertson said.
As BMW Chief Financial Officer Friedrich Eichiner refered, back in October, strong demand for the car may lead to a production increase in Leipzig, where the i3 should exceed a 10.000 vehicle production.
The next model from the i subbrand being launched is the i8 plug-in hybrid supercar, which will arrive in Europe in the spring. For now a third model is not being equated, as the brand wants to analyse the demand for this type of vehicles.
