has one more addition to its Tokyo Motor Show lineup, but it is not technically a car. The UNI-CUB β is a personal mobility device that balances on a single, omni-directional wheel that Honda has named the Honda Omni Traction Drive System (HOTS).
The UNI-CUB β is a further evolution of the UNI-CUB that was first shown in May 2012. Its technology is based on the balancing tech that it developed for its humanoid robot, ASIMO.
Users sit on top of the UNI-CUB β and shift their body weight to move forward, backward, side-to-side and diagonally. The updates from the UNI-CUB β come from a test that Honda conducted with the National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation in Japan. The latest version is smaller, lighter, lower and more usable than the previous version. The seat is 620mm high, and the vehicle weighs 25kg. It has a maximum range of 6km and maximum speed of 6km/h. It is meant to be used by disabled or low-mobility individuals indoors.
