Information about the Infiniti Emerg-E's unique, mid-mounted hybrid powertrain is finally breaking cover. The car was just revealed at the Geneva Motor Show. Infiniti says that the Emerg-E is "a proof of intention" for right now. However, it is possible that the technology on the vehicle could see production much sooner.
The Emerg-E is meant to show Infiniti's intention to become the maker of green, but still sporty cars. The car uses a three-cylinder, range-extending petrol engine to power two electric motors to give it acceleration to 100km/h in four seconds. Pure electric range is 30km, and Infiniti claims emissions of 55g/km of CO2.
Unfortunately, Infiniti did not go into many details about the Emerg-E's styling. The car is beautiful and futuristic in a way that a lot of concepts attempt but fail. The curves that connect the rear quarter panel to the rear fender are gorgeous and appear to work as spoilers to create downforce. It is a novel design decision.
