Land Rover has been loaning vehicles and providing winter driving training to Red Cross volunteers in the UK. The vehicles are meant to respond to situations during hazardous winter conditions where it might be difficult or impossible to use other vehicles.
During the weekend of February 3 to February 5, the Red Cross responded to 999 emergency calls with their Land Rover Defender ambulances. It had crews in Surrey, Hampshire, Derbyshire and Leicester. In Surrey, they were used to get to a couple whose house had caught fire, and in Essex they transported nurses to a hospital.
Land Rover is launching a winter driving class at 10 of its centers in the UK to prepare drivers for snowy conditions. The half-day course advises on the best techniques to drive on ice, snow and in deep water when the snow thaws.
