A new V8 diesel engine, a new 8-speed transmission, two Terrain Response® upgrades and slight external styling changes are the new features of Land Rover’s 2011 Range Rover, which intend to maintain the model’s position in the luxury SUV segment.
Land Rover will be featuring for the first time its all-new LR-TDV8 4.4-litre with parallel sequential turbocharging, which will be replacing the LR-TDV8 3.6-litre. This new powertrain combines superior power and massive torque and despite the extra performance it is also greener, delivering lower fuel consumption and CO2 emissions than its predecessor. In fact the LR-TDV8 4.4-litre is the first land Rover to reach the 30 mpg of combined cycle fuel consumption with 30.1 mpg (9.4 l/100km).
Although the new engine delivers an output of 313 PS and 700 Nm of torque the CO2 emissions have still been reduced by 14 percent. This has also been possible thanks to the the new, electronically controlled, ZF 8HP70, 8-speed automatic gearbox that has been mattred with the LR-TDV8 4.4-li unit. This combination enables the 2011 Range Rover to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.8 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.
In 2011 the Range Rover will still be available with the same 5.0-litre LR-V8, supercharged petrol engine fitted with the ZF HP28 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine produces a power of 510 PS and 625 Nm of torque and gives the Range Rover the capability to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.2 seconds.
Further new features on the 2011 Range Rover include the Terrain Response® system in the form of Hill Start Assist and Gradient Acceleration Control. In the interior optional illuminated treadplates for the front doors, new transmission controls for the diesel model, and improvements to the entertainment system have been added. In the exterior the 2011 Range Rover features the new ‘Jupiter’ grilles and side vents for the diesel models.
