. Autocar magazine in the UK has got its hands on an internal Land Rover document showing that the brand plans to go from six models now to 16 by 2020. While this may sound like a lot, in reality it appears that Land Rover plans to base these cars on three chassis aimed at three portions of the market.
According to the documents, Land Rover sees its market in three segments: luxury, leisure and utility. Each segment will get its own platform.
The utility segment is the most complicated. LR plans to keep building the current DefenderLand Rover Defender Gen.1United Kingdom, 1983 > present122 versions

, but it will probably only be sold in emerging markets. There will also be a new generation Dender offered in pick-up, long wheelbase and standard versions. Finally, there will be the DC100Land Rover DC100United Kingdom, 2011 > 20112 versions

, and some of the trucks have not been signed off on yet. There will be a new Discovery to replace the Discovery 4, but there may also be a luxury version that would top the leisure segment. The next Freelander will get five- and seven-seat variations and a high-style Evoque-esque version.
The luxury segment is for the Range Rover models including the Range Rover Sport and EvoqueLand Rover Range Rover EvoqueUnited Kingdom, 2011 > present128 versions

. Some of these models are already on the horizon. The new Range Rover is due next year, and the Range Rover Sport has been spotted testing. There will also be a long wheelbase Range Rover.
The Evoque is almost going to have its own line within the luxury segment. There will be the standard truck, long wheelbase version, convertible and maybe even a smaller version if LR sees the market available.
While technically there are 16 vehicles here, in reality it is just a few trucks with multiple variations.
LR is predicting that the SUV segment will hit 22 million cars by 2020, and it will sell 600,000 vehicles a year by that time.
